Homework
Weekly homework will include nightly reading (M-Th) and practicing math facts for fluency.
Reading: Your child will bring home a new book to read inside their book baggie (M-TH). Please have your child read the book to you. Then have your child choose a question from the orange response sheet (inside the book baggie), and discuss that question together. Write the question # and a response of at least 2-3 sentences on the reading response log (2 days per week). Keep the reading response log inside the book baggie and the completed log will be turned in for review on Fridays.
Math: Your child will be given 2 days of math problems on their homework log. Please also practice math facts at home periodically.
Homework is important because it reinforces what has been taught in class, teaches responsibility, and helps students develop positive study habits. Please establish a consistent, nightly homework routine.
Students are expected to follow all directions, put forth their best effort, and to put their name on all papers. Homework should be legible, neat, and completed in pencil (unless coloring is required). Students are responsible for completing and turning in assignments.
Parents are the key to making homework a positive experience. Please provide the necessary supplies, a quiet workspace, as well as praise and support. At the beginning of the year, children may need your help in reading directions. Let your child do his/her own work. Please check their work, discuss any problems and have them correct mistakes.
I will review homework and keep a record of assignments completed. I will not “grade” homework, but will look for content areas that may need review or reteaching.
